Italian Meatballs and "Nick"

So, I'm not sure how many people have seen the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," but it is a fairly humorous account of the events leading up to the marriage of a young american greek woman to an american man.

Well, the other night we went to this restaurant called "Pan Am restaurant." The name has absolutely no appeal, but inside it was one of those hole in the wall authentic places that we will definitely visit again. The family had obviously divided up the waitressing, cooking and and cleaning tasks. Some friends had stopped in to hang out at a booth and talk to whichever family member wasn't serving customers. The older the server, the more likely they yelled out the order before they got to the semi-open kitchen area ...just in case the cook couldn't read the order?

Our waitress was about 60-65 years old, short, plump, cute, and extremely helpful. So helpful, in fact, that she arranged the silverware in front of me, packaged my leftovers practically in my face and wouldn't take our dessert order until she kept coming back to tell us every dessert they offered.

Just when I told my boyfriend that it felt so much like the movie (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), a cook yelled from the kitchen for "Nick" to come pick up an order. Ha! Ha! All of the boy cousins in the movie were named Nick. What a riot! We were just waiting to see them walk out and clean our tables with Windex!

Anyway, it was an experience that I will definitly have again. We finally ordered dessert and then the woman said she had forgotten to tell us about the "Napolean" dessert and so we ordered it to take home along with the leftover meatballs that were the size of three McDonalds hamburgers.

And, why would I ever return to the major food chains when I can have experiences like this?
