Phone phobia

I think I need to get help. I have a complete phobia of the phone. It is getting worse too. So, all you friends that have called - it's nothing personal, it's just phobia.

I'm going to start researching to see if there are some mechanisms that will help me in getting over this, but stay with me. It's gotten worse over the last couple of years. I'm assuming it will get worse before it gets better.

Phone phobia anonymous may be the next group I need to create to get through it.

My sister said she is having similar feelings. Are we just weird or is this happening to others?

I have 10 voicemails on my phone right now. Chances are it will be weeks before I bother listening to them.
I talk to my mom, my sister, and my best friend on the phone. No one else. I hate talking to anyone else on the phone. Everyone else can just text me.
In fact, I'd be perfectly happy with a phone that doesn't make calls, and just sends texts and emails for me.

What is Telephone Phobia?
Defined as "a persistent, abnormal, and unwarranted fear of telephones", each year this surprisingly common phobia causes countless people needless distress.

To add insult to an already distressing condition, most telephone phobia therapies take months or years and sometimes even require the patient to be exposed repeatedly to their fear. We believe that not only is this totally unnecessary, it will often make the condition worse. And it is particularly cruel as telephone phobia can be eliminated with the right methods and just 24 hours of commitment by the phobic individual.

Known by a number of names - Telephonophobia and Fear of Telephones being the most common - the problem often significantly impacts the quality of life. It can cause panic attacks and keep people apart from loved ones and business associates. Symptoms typically include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and overall feelings of dread, although everyone experiences telephone phobia in their own way and may have different symptoms. .

Though a variety of potent drugs are often prescribed for telephone phobia, side effects and/or withdrawal symptoms can be severe. Moreover, drugs do not "cure" telephone phobia or any other phobia. At best they temporarily suppress the symptoms through chemical interaction.

The good news is that the modern, fast, drug-free processes of The CTRN Phobia Clinic will train your mind to feel completely different about telephones, eliminating the fear so it never haunts you again.

Consider the true cost of living with Telephone Phobia.
If you are living with telephone phobia, what is the real cost to your health, your career or school, and to your family life? For anyone earning a living, the financial toll of this phobia is incalculable. Living with fear means you can never concentrate fully and give your best. Lost opportunities. Poor performance or grades. Promotions that pass you by. telephone phobia will likely cost you tens, even hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of your lifetime, let alone the cost to your health and quality of life. Now Telephone Phobia can be gone for less than the price of a round-trip airline ticket.

What is the cause of Telephone Phobia?
Like all fears and phobias, telephone phobia is created by the unconscious mind as a protective mechanism. At some point in your past, there was likely an event linking telephones and emotional trauma. Whilst the original catalyst may have been a real-life scare of some kind, the condition can also be triggered by myriad, benign events like movies, TV, or perhaps seeing someone else experience trauma.

But so long as the negative association is powerful enough, the unconscious mind thinks: "Ahh, this whole thing is very dangerous. How do I keep myself from getting in this kind of situation again? I know, I'll attach terrible feelings to telephones, that way I'll steer clear in future and so be safe." Just like that telephone phobia is born. Attaching emotions to situations is one of the primary ways that humans learn. Sometimes we just get the wiring wrong.

How does Telephone Phobia show up ?
The actual phobia manifests itself in different ways. Some sufferers experience it almost all the time, others just in response to direct stimuli. Everyone has their own unique formula for when and how to feel bad.

How Do We Do It?
We won't actually do anything: you will. Our practitioners will teach you to regain control of your emotions and conquer your Telephone Phobia. Working with us, you'll rapidly train your unconscious mind to connect different, positive feelings to the stimuli that triggers the phobia. And you will learn quickly now to stop the root cause of your Fear of Flying: those awful thoughts, images, movies or sounds.
We are an ABNLP
Approved Program

We don't use hypnosis for Telephone Phobia but our modern techniques are equally relaxing and enjoyable. Clients immediately notice that they feel different. Once the unconscious mind feels safe and learns how to respond appropriately, it will always know - so the results are permanent. Telephone Phobia is gone. Forever.

Does it work?
Can we rid you of a debilitating phobia after just a few hours of work? Is this just a quick fix? At CTRN we've helped hundreds of people beat their phobias. Here's just one testimonial:

"I have a BA degree in Psychology yet could never get a handle on my personal phobia...

I am not a fan of pop-psychology and so ordered your program with a great deal of doubt. Once I started it, I found your approach of breaking negative stimulus links and building new ones made perfect sense to me...

I'm glad I put you to the test because in three days I took back a freedom that had been gone for 15 years."

I hate the phone, always have, and will only call people if it is for my calling. Someone told me I was a bad friend for not calling her back. I said, to heck with you, get on the email. There is nothing so annoying as trying to talk on the phone, nothing is said, and than, when you do decide to venture out there and talk, so does the other person. Goooo. I also hate the old bate and switch technique that yon brother is so fond of. "Hey I am going to call this person, pretend I am going to talk, and then throw the phone at you when you least expect it just because I think you are silly for not wanting to talk on the phone." Grrrr.

Good luck, but I'm happy with phone-o-phobia.
(I, too, will only talk to my mom, my husband, or the RS president.)

That's son funny that all the site Dad listed all say "call this number to get help!!!" Ummm...a phone phobic wouldn't make the call!!!!! hahahaha! Maybe there are people who are actually afraid of the phone as an object or the sound of the phone. Me...like you...i hate making phone calls or like jessica, being handed the phone by Ladd or one of the kids unexpectedly...I'm always using sign language saying, "who is it?" or waving my hands furiosly in a "no no no" gesture trying to avoid it. I have friends who hate that I never call them back, and I have to remind them all the time my weakness. My voice mail always goes unanswered!! I could talk for hours though with my sisters, mom, and a few close friends...when the call me first! ha! Yes, I'd definitely qualify for this group!!! :)
