So, yesterday I am sitting in church minding my own business singing the first hymn and suddenly I heard a voice rise above the rest. One solitary man was belting out the hymn with all his heart, might, mind and strength. I quickly scanned the audience and found the ward singer - it was a visitor! Of course it was! Our ward doesn't have a ward singer or maybe I haven't heard anything because I sit way in the back.
It brought back memories of times past when every ward I ever lived in had that one singer that could be heard from anywhere in the chapel. They would sing with such gusto and heart that no matter how loud you sang it was just background noise in comparison.
I miss having a ward singer. Somehow that one person would bring up the quality of singing from the entire audience. In fact, I think the ward singers even force the organists to play a little louder and faster. Sometimes I want to jump up and do that myself, but I'm not the right person to try to pull that off.
Hopefully that guy comes into town again because it gave me a little secret happiness to know that ward singers are still singing away out there somewhere.

Hmmm, I wonder if my cousin was in your ward yesterday. He is totally a ward singer.
What a wonderful and fun comment, Rebecca. You nailed it for sure. More wards need such bold and unabashed people as you describe. I loved it.
