Memory Lane - Star Wars

This evening I went on a walk and coming back through the hotel lobby I walked by a couple of storm troopers and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Yes, I did.

No, I didn't think anything of it at the time and then realized that this shouldn't be normal.

Come to find out, some Star Wars junkies are here for a little Star Wars conference where they are dressing up, sharing costumes and trading memorabilia.

Yes, these conferences are real and not just made fun of in the movies.

It took me back a long, long time ago to a far away place (Grand Island, NE) where we lived for a few years in the 1970s. My sisters and I went to Star Wars one day for a showing and I held a winning ticket - to a radio!

Cool as it was, I knew my parents wouldn't think so (or so I thought at 7-8 years old) and so I traded it for a much COOLER Princess Leah doll. Not a great choice since my sisters have since informed me that I never played with dolls growing up and that bothered them. I guess they couldn't stand that I would put them on display, but wouldn't dress them up. Ever.

This is back in the day when the movie was considered AMAZING in the special effects department and when Luke Skywalker was considered cute. Now I am wondering what little Rebecker was thinking. In life I've rarely been fond of blond men and certainly not those that are as tall as I was at 9 years old.

Now, I'm sitting by the pool watching it with the storm troopers and all the admiring children (and adults).

This was my first really memorable movie memory (TV firsts were Donny and Marie and Lawrence Welk - yikes) and sitting here by the pool blogging about it takes me back to that time a bit.

I may just go upstairs and wrap my hair into two big buns for old times sake. Or, maybe not.

It is more fun watching the storm troopers swimming in the pool with their costumes on - really, I think that they think they are REAL storm troopers trekking through - er - the Orlando imagination parks.

Nonetheless, good memories that must be captured. Wish I had some better pictures, but it is dark out and one of those storm troopers might point a fake gun at me if I let the flash go once again.

I'm so jealous you are in Orlando. I lived there for a year. I love that town both as a local and as a tourist. Its a fun town! Because I know you can appreciate some good chocolate, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. The best chocolate shop in the world is in Orlando. (Also, I just happen to have been a manager at said shop. And I still adore the owners.) Farris and Fosters Famous Chocolate Factory. You want to get the triple chocolate caramel covered popcorn. Trust me, its to die for. Also, if you like salty sweet, and peanut butter, get the "bow ties."
If "Foster" (of Farris and Foster) is in the shop, tell him I sent you. Trust me, best chocolate shop ever.
