Nails - Obey Your Body

Ok, so I did succumb to one purchase this weekend. I was walking through the Pentagon City mall with my friend Jacque. I don't even remember why we were, except that we needed a parking place. We were walking along and this girl hijacked our conversation asking me if my nails were natural.

(Picture - posted ...without permission)

Of course they are natural. I've never had a manicure in my life. Anyway, she grabbed my nail and started using this thing to buff the actual nail. Gasp! I've always avoided doing that thinking it would be like sandpaper on the nail. But, it wasn't bad. She kept flipping the little block around telling me that all you had to do is step 1, step 2, and step 3 and how she was from Israel. Still haven't figured out why that last item was important....except that the product is from the Dead Sea minerals or something. Anyway, after step 3 I looked at my nail and it was beautiful! It looked like I had applied clear finger nail polish.

Well, I was sold until I heard the price $84.00 on sale for $69.99. Luckily, Jacque acted like that wasn't a deal and said we would think about it and then she lowered it to $39.00 and I took it. Then, she offered a 2nd for $19.00 and I bought. Weird. Over negotiating. Now I know that it's really worth $19.00 or less.

Either way, it's kind of a cool little nail kit and it should last me a year or so.

Probably good to get it on ebay or something as the price is still around $60.00 plus online.

Good times with Good Friends

It's Black Friday! I live within a couple of miles of some of the best shopping in Northern Virginia. I slept in until 8 a.m. and got into the car almost an hour later.

However, I didn't go the mall (except in Pentagon City where that was the only place to park). I got to spend Black Friday with two great former roommate friends.

They came out to DC this week despite the change of wedding plans.

We had a great time. Jacque and I drove around DC and down to Mt. Vernon. We met up with Shirley a little later and drove down Route 1 in Alexandria, Virginia to enjoy the Afghan Restaurant. When we all lived in Pentagon City we would frequent this restaurant almost weekly. We loved the Afghan waiting staff and of course the wonderful food. We were some of the first people to go back to the restaurant after September 11th when we saw our favorite waiter plastered on the front of the USA Today saying that they had lost $30,000 in business that month after the attacks.

Ah, good times. Sometimes in these moments you don't realize that 8-9 years have past since you've first met someone. In fact, I feel like I've known Shirley and Jacque my entire life. Maybe it's because we've gone through the hard parts of life together. Or, maybe it's just because we trust in each other to share those deep sorrows, pains, hopes and desires.

Does it really matter why I feel like I've known them forever? Probably not. It just matters that I have these friends and no matter how many years separate us...we still just get together and talk as if nothing has changed between then and now. I think we all need a few people like this in our lives. Maybe just 1-2 or perhaps even 9-10, but the point is to have them and to be one of them to someone else.

Good times. Good friends.
