Life Guards - irony

My neighborhood pool is AWESOME as you can see from the photo below. Of course, it better be since my monthly fees are like a small mortgage.

I've succeeded in going to swim laps after work again today. This means very little sun benefit (which explains the various shades of white and brown skin on my body), but I do get a swim lane.

As I was gliding through the water, I noted the lifeguards.

Isn't it ironic that the people that are designated to save my life are all but 15 years old, scrawny as toothpicks, and are busy checking out the other lifeguards?

During the 15 minute adult swim, I happened to be the only person in the pool along with a "scrawny" sitting way up in a chair watching me. She was about as big as my left thigh. Which, in retrospect, isn't a great analogy. My thighs are longer and wider than most of the population by mere body height.

It was an interesting thought and one that made me swim longer -  hoping to build up strength so that I could take care of an actual rescue.

On another note - swimming in 100 degree humid weather (and weirdly hot and humid water), isn't that refreshing.

Over 100 - degrees that is

Can you tell it is over 100 around here nowadays? Can you tell it is humid?

As I get older, I get smarter. Like, instead of going out in the sun between 10-2 to get the most rays, I don't go out between 10-3:30 p.m. because the skin is a little splotchier than in days past.

Or, I have no need to prove my athletic abilities by riding a bike uphill or walking fast across sun drenched black cement in the middle of the day.

I purposely worked until 7:00 p.m. tonight so that it would be cooler while I sat in traffic coming home. And, was "elated" when my car cooled from the 113 degrees down to 98. It is always relative, aye?

Well, summer is here and has been here for a few months now and I've vowed to take advantage of it for the first time in a couple of years. I actually swam laps this weekend and may end up having a better tan line than from the knees down and elbows.
