Blog Slacker and Electronic Fasts

Shockingly, I almost forgot that I have a blog. How does one forget that?

In some ways, that is a good thing. I'm busy enough to have other things on my mind. But, it is surprising how fast it puts you out of touch. Combine that with forgetting that I have a Facebook account and I must be completely anti-social.

Work is keeping me busy. I'm training a few folks and going to help manage a new contract. This is a good thing. One of the folks I'm training is taking on some of my old job responsibilities and freeing me up to think bigger. That is a good thing. I know the details, but prefer to think big picture.

So, this is my excuse. Blogging just hasn't been on the mind. I wonder if more of us will start having "electronic fasts" just to have some alone time. Thoughts, or are you not accessing my blog because you're on one right now?

Time to Blog

A lot of people say they don't have time to blog.

For me, it's more of a decision not to for most of the week.

However, it doesn't really take that much time - does it?

I spent about 5-10 minutes on an entry. This one will take two minutes.

Is that bad? Maybe others spend more time. With me it just comes flowing out.

Perhaps I need to hire an editor to go back and make sure the wordiness of it all is trimmed out.

But, then it wouldn't be my blog with all of the imperfections of a stressed woman quickly emptying out her brain to free up the thoughts.

Ok, it took 50 seconds.

Oops.

55 seconds.

Lots O Posts

Just felt I had to state this - yes, lots of posts last night/early this morning. No, I do not sit around posting blog items all day.

My daily walk alerted me to a few items and so I just spent the last two hours downloading those thoughts here.

Whew! I'm tired. It is so much easier to sleep when all the things of the mind are transmitted to paper if even in a less than profound format of verbiage.

Good-night!

Blog topics list

Sometimes I look at my blog and wonder if I write too much. Do I really need almost an entry a day? I'm not the greatest writer, I admit, but at the same time I have to get all of this out of me in a written record.

This is where I will admit to keeping a section on my to do list devoted to blog topics. I can't help it. Something will happen at work and I will add it to my list. Most of those entries are on my private work venting blog. Or, someone will send a funny email or inspire me in some way and so I'll write it down for my other blog where I keep all the quotes, funnies, and ideas. Ideas just roll out so fast that I do need to put them on the to do list so that I actually remember to write them down at some point. And, what better time where I still have my mind?

It is amazing how I am more inclined to write some of these things knowing that they will be published on the Internet. I owe it to myself to keep my blogs updated and my mind free of clutter. No work gets done when I have mental clutter, physical clutter or even computer clutter.

However, I go back and forth on whether all of my writings should be out there for everyone or if everything should be on private. Hmmm. I'll just keep going this way for now, but will have to rethink the thought sharing strategy going forward.

No fun -no new blog entries

It's no fun this week. Almost no one has updated their blog. I'm going to have to find some more to read for those 15 minutes each day.

Blogging Items

I may be the only person that does this, but I've taken to writing down items at work that I want to blog about. Now, there are a couple of reasons for doing this.

1.) I don't have access to my blog at work. I could email my own blog and have it post, but so far I haven't done so.

2.) There is no time to write at work and plus - that's why I'm paid the big bucks, right? To work?

3.) The action of writing down the topics to write about is therapeutic. It allows me to get down the item that is bothering/enlightening me on to paper. I then feel empowered to move my thoughts on to whatever should be my focus. So, it's almost as good as the time spent creating the entry later. I've often taken this approach with my journal writing as well. That way I have all the key events listed out for when I finally sit down and focus on writing.

Anyway, it may seem weird, but since it is simple and it works, I will keep using it.

Carpool

Have I written about carpooling yet? I'm not sure. However, one of the carpoolers has now seen my blog. Yikes! I had to hide a couple of posts before I sent the link for viewing. Why? Well, nothing is written about said person, but said person might know other persons that could find out and do some research and find some links to some of my other blogs. Another yikes!

Actually, this is a good thing. Really thinking about all the possible people that could get to your blog is good practice in containing the writing a bit.

However, enough about the blog. Carpooling is great. I now leave the house a wee bit early (5:35 a.m.) to meet the carpool at 5:50 a.m. We meet at a mutually agreeable parking lot and drive the next 20-25 miles together. We try quite a few different routes just to see if the shared experiences equal a shorter commute time. At least we know quite a few back-up routes if the situation should arise. We all have great excuses at 3:30 as well. We must "catch the carpool" and so all meetings must be cut short at that time.

Hopefully this endeavor will cut down on the gas a bit as well. I might even spend less than pre-gas gouging.

Now, let's see if some of the carpool antics get part of more blog posts. But, I have to be careful because "what is said in the carpool should stay in the carpool." And this is exactly why you don't know how old, young, tall, short, fat, skinny, male, female, fun, rude, mean, etc. the people are that I ride with to work everyday. However, I will say this...the fact that I'm actually riding with people everyday says they can't be too bad because I do have a motto for people that I feel don't add value or high self-esteem comments to my life - "There is no time for people like that."

Secret Happiness - Airport Blogging

So, I feel like I've entered a new era because I purchased a wireless card/service last night. I'm sitting in the airport with my work email open, an online product I'm testing, and my blog. Nice. So productive too. I've always been productive in these settings, but with more than 1/2 of my life online...it helps to keep this going on the go as well. Yes, it's a little pricey, but if I bought the airport wifi connection I would just have it for those brief hours that I'm in the airport every month. This way I can even use it at home and perhaps even get rid of my cable connection if I find it reliable.

Anyway, this is definitely a secret happiness worth sharing.
