Street Talent - bring some coins

It is always a treat to watch the street talent in the DC area, or any large city for that matter. My trip to the National Mall today held the typical enjoyment. This guy had a particularly interesting assortment of sounds coming out of his mouth. So, I left him a buck.

Up the way near the Washington Monument I ran across another group playing some folksy hits and they got a handful of my change.

I have a new goal - always take $5 bucks to the city with the intention of giving it away to the street performers.

It will keep them coming and sharing and it always makes people stop, listen and momentarily just enjoy the moment.

Musical Christmas Light House

So, you may have seen YouTube videos on this last Christmas, but one of my friends just posted this to her blog and I went to the site to find more videos because I've always loved what these people have done by combining music and Christmas light shows on their house. I had no idea it was a guy in Nashville...unless there are a few people out there that do this kind of thing.

Take a look at some of the videos:

2008 Songs

2009 Songs

I'm embedding one below for a sneak preview

Wizards in Winter - Liptonlights.com from Alan Sielbeck on Vimeo.

So, my further search shows that this is becoming more popular.

If you want to see other houses, go to Google and search with key words "christmas light house music youtube" and you'll find a variety of houses with Christmas, rock and whatever other kind of music.

Primary - kid or secretary?

I'm the secretary in primary and sometimes I'll admit to forgetting that I'm adult.

During singing time I sometimes have to focus to try to learn the words. I get so focused that I forget that I'm supposed to help the teachers, take the roll, pass out the roll/flyers for the teachers and go check on the nursery.

It kind of shows the power of the primary singing and sharing time.

Growing up I had fond memories of this time. My mother was usually the chorister and she always had great posters, activities and hand motions for us. I even have journal entries about how we went home and "played primary" after church on Sundays.

Ah, good times. I do enjoy being in primary. After all, this is about the only place that I see children all week at this point in my life.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Yesterday was my mother's birthday! She is not only the talented dancer in the YouTube video at the bottom of this page, but also a wonderful mother. She's got "skills" in music, drama, sports, education, religion, emergency prepardness and most importantly on being a full-time mother! It's like running a small corporation when you have so many kids, but she did it well. I'm grateful that I have had her as an example in my life.

Happy Birthday Mom!
